Buddha Dordenma
Buddha Dordenma, popularly known as Buddha Point, is one of the largest Buddha statues in the world and a major spiritual landmark overlooking the Thimphu Valley. The gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue stands at Kuenselphodrang Nature Park and symbolizes peace, happiness, and prosperity for Bhutan and all sentient beings. Standing about 51.5 meters (169 feet) tall, the bronze statue is gilded in gold and houses thousands of smaller Buddha statues inside.
Wangditse
Wangditse Monastery, also known as Druk Wangditse Lhakhang or the “Temple of the Peak of Conquest,” is one of Bhutan’s oldest and most important monasteries founded in 1715 by Druk Rabgye, the 8th Druk Desi, it served as a seat of authority and played a significant role in Bhutan’s dual system of governance.
Dochula Pass Stupa
Dochula Pass is famous for its 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens (stupas), built by Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck to honor Bhutanese soldiers and commemorate the leadership of the Fourth King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, during the 2003 military operation against Indian militants camped in Southern forests of Bhutan. Surrounded by Bhutan’s Royal Botanical Park, the pass also offers breathtaking Himalayan views, including Gangkhar Puensum, the world’s highest unclimbed peak. Hidden in the hills above the pass are small meditation caves that offer a quiet space for spiritual reflection and mindfulness practice.
